Thanks Bruce! Howard Passel, our customer, asked me to pass this on:

Thank you for the info, but I don't think that the programs do what I need done. I get the impression that they check one file against all others. I need every file to be be compared with every other file in selected subdirectories. Second, I want a program that uses a platform independent of Windows---I have had enough experience with bloated registries.

We discussed existing dup detection tools at the last meeting.
Beyond diff -c and diff -u there is a tool for linux & windows at
http://www.anticutandpaste.com/
It only costs about $20, and has a 1 month trial

SCO used an unspecified tool of this type, unsuccessfully against IBM.
There was a talk at a security conference last year, about fuzzy matching.
OTOH, I have heard of someone who might still be interested, if you do
go forward with dup detector.

Thanks Bruce! I'm copying the Yahoo group where most of our discussion takes place.
